Dolan Hughson is the latest field employee to trade in his coveralls for a suit and tie at Trinidad. Much like Canadian Contracts Manager, Steve Bozko, Dolan wanted to learn more about the business off the rigs, and saw our Sales Manager opening in Colorado as a perfect opportunity to drill deeper.
“I know Trinidad’s rigs inside and out,” said Dolan, who started with us 14 years ago as a Rig Manager and worked his way up the ladder to General Manager in our U.S. division, prior to landing the Sales Manager role in Colorado.
“Working on the sales and marketing side is a great opportunity for me to learn more about what goes into contracts, contract negotiations and risk assessment.”
Movin’ on up
Dolan began his career with Trinidad when he caught wind of our new AC rigs. Interested in being part of the action, he joined our team and started building Rig 47, a 1,500 HP triple currently drilling in Glasscock County, Texas.
“I pushed 47 when it first hit the field before taking a Senior Field Superintendent role in Louisiana,” explained Dolan.
Like many leaders at Trinidad, Dolan’s opportunities to advance didn’t stop there. He was later promoted to General Manager, overseeing our operations and field offices in Louisiana, south and west Texas, and rigs operating in Florida, Mississippi, Louisiana, Texas and New Mexico.
Trinidad’s services: an easy sell
Dolan started his latest role at the beginning of 2018. As a Sales Manager based out of Denver, Colorado, his days are focused on marketing our services to current and potential customers. A role, he admits, has been an easy fit so far.
“Trinidad is an easy sell for me,” Dolan noted. “We have the best crews working for us. They’re skilled, reliable, safe, and they’re working on some of the best drilling rigs in the business.”
An office team that (really) knows what’s happening in the field
“I’ve drilled all kinds of wells in Canada and the United States; I know Trinidad’s rigs and crews and what they’re capable of,” said Dolan.
Having people like Dolan, who have years of hands-on experience on our rigs, move into office roles is a common theme at Trinidad. When it comes to marketing our services, customers appreciate being able to “talk shop” with someone that’s put in their time on a drilling rig.
