The last time we caught up with Rig Manager, Kevin Dobson, the 10-year Trinidad veteran had just received CAODC’s safety excellence award. Today, Dobson and his crews are at the top of their game and are the proud new owners of Chevron’s 2016 award for operational excellence. Continue reading
One of Trinidad’s exploration and production customers in the United States holds its own Drilling Academy Awards every month. Much like Oscar himself, the award is golden for the winning drilling company.
Maybe that’s why they call it the Golden Drilling Rig Award.
The 1,500 AC triple, which is drilling in the Permian Basin, won the inaugural Rig of the Quarter award from Pioneer Natural Resources in July. Pioneer recently started the initiative to drive continuous improvement among all the rigs they have contracted.
Kevin Dobson has proven you can have both safety and performance on a rig; it doesn’t have to be one or the other. Dobson, a Rig Manager on our team, has led Rig 57 to over 600 days without a recordable incident – all while drilling record holes for depth and size in the area where the rig is deployed south of Fort McMurray, Alta.
Strong leadership = safe crews
Every spring, the Canadian Association of Oilwell Drilling Contractors (CAODC) presents safety awards after the winter-drilling season. This tradition has been going on for 34 years. Safety scrolls are given to senior crew members who lead their teams to 200 consecutive days without a recordable incident. Stand-out crews are also nominated by their companies to receive special Safety Excellence Awards (what Dobson received). Continue reading
Since he started with Trinidad 13 years ago, Ben Kiemele has worked on our rigs in Canada, Mexico, Saudi Arabia and Bahrain.
For a guy who had never traveled outside of Canada or been on an airplane prior to his first hitch in Mexico in 2008, he was quick to take to the international drilling scene.
“It hasn’t always been easy, but it’s definitely been worth it.” Continue reading
If you are going to do something, do it to the best of your ability.
That mindset has been a defining one for Chad Britt throughout his career. Born into a long line of roughnecks, the Louisiana native is one of the Rig Managers on Rig 134, a trophy-clad triple in our U.S. fleet with a track record of accomplishment.
“I’ve always taught my crews to strive for their very best,” said Chad.
“Rig 134 isn’t gunning for awards, we just want to be a benefit to Trinidad and do our jobs to the highest standard.”
As it turns out, when you are passionate about doing a great job, awards and recognition tend to follow. Continue reading
Family feasts, football games, parade floats, and Black Friday finds are common Thanksgiving traditions in the US this time of year. No matter the Thanksgiving tradition, family and friends are often at the heart of the festivities.
For Field Superintendent Dustin Brown, his wife, Jennifer, and their two children, this year’s celebrations will be a little different. Not only will it be the family’s first American Thanksgiving as US residents since Dustin’s promotion from Rig Manager, but Dustin will be home to celebrate.
“I’m always thankful for a healthy family and the opportunity to provide for them, but this year we’re especially grateful for the time we’ll have together.” Continue reading
Rig hands can spend up to half the year away from home, often working in remote locations, and sometimes in other countries. Exposed to the elements for up to twelve and a half hours a shift, they need to be well-rested and well-fed to perform their duties safely and efficiently on the rig.
Chris Willoughby, our Quality Management System (QMS) Manager, spends his days focused on these details. One of the ways he’s making sure this quality travels with us as we expand into new countries is ensuring Trinidad’s QMS complies with globally-recognized standards.
“Conforming with ISO 9001: 2015 standards in our Saudi Arabia division is huge for us,” said Willoughby. “Not only does it give Trinidad a competitive edge in the Middle East, but it helps keep up the operational excellence Trinidad is known for in North America.”
In September 2015, Rig 445 was awarded the Golden Drilling Rig Award by one of Trinidad’s customers in the United States. Just one year later, they’re back at it again. But this time, for another customer. Selected to drill three out-of-the-ordinary horizontal wells in Texas, the crew and their ultra-heavy tele double quickly proved to be the perfect combination for the job. Continue reading
